Banner Photos and Stories
We are always on the lookout for interesting photos and stories to publish on the District website, especially when the demonstrate teamwork, learning, collaboration, and spirit. It has been our experience that students love to see their photos on the website banner - it makes them feel really special.
Privacy
These days everyone is concerned about privacy, including the Hartford School District. We have some general guidelines we follow to safeguard our students. For example, we do not publish a child's name in association with photos on the website, unless we have permission from a parent or guardian. As a general rule, we publish names and we publish photos but we don't publish them together.
Hartford students who paticipate on a school athletic team, belong to a club, or a musical or theatrical group - and their parents/guardians - should understand that these are very public activities and the community at-large is able to take videos and photos. If you want your child to participate in these kinds of activities then you must expect that your child could be photographed by the media or school district.
Hartford uses two documents that address the release of personal information around students:
-
FERPA guidelines (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act), published in the newspaper, in every student handbook, and below.
-
The Media Release Form (below). New in 2009. At any time, a parent or guardian can complete this form and send it to their student's school office. It will be kept on record and checked whenever a media opportunity occurs. If the school does not receive this form from a parent/guardian it is assumed that the parents agrees to a reasonable amount of media coverage, should the opportunity arise.
Please do not hisstate to call if you have any questions.
Best,
