School is drawing to a close shortly and with it will come a flurry of activity. In addition to our regular summer programs, this year we are commencing the important work of creating a Master Plan for all district buildings and grounds. Out of the planning process will come a road map that we can follow that will help us make the wisest use of district resources to insure optimal learning environments for our students for many years to come. Parents, teachers, administrators, town officials, school board members, students, business people are all represented on the Steering Committee. As the committee’s work progresses, opportunities will be provided for public input to help us shape the plan so as to be as responsive as possible to identified needs and goals.

In addition to the Master Plan process and our normal maintenance routines, we will be renovating two science labs at the high school in order to provide improved facilities for student use. In the process, we will upgrade safety equipment in those rooms.

Policy revision will begin in earnest this summer with a systematic review and updating of all Hartford School District Policies and Procedures. As documents are accepted by the school board they will be placed on the district website so as to be accessible to all. The district website will also begin a redesign process as will the various school websites. All of this work will be undertaken with the goal of making our information resources more public and easier to find.

Several valued, long-time Hartford teachers will be departing at the end of this school year after collectively providing hundreds of years of dedicated service. They will be sorely missed and their contributions will have made a lasting impact on the lives of many, many students. As they take their leave, we wish them happiness and health in an enjoyable retirement. We are very fortunate that in this “changing of the guard” to have been able to secure a cadre of extremely talented, enthusiastic teachers who will carry on the work of teaching our students. We are confident that they will continue the work of the Hartford School District and help us advance our goal of providing students with the best learning opportunities possible.
